The shoulder is the most mobile joint in the body which allows us to complete many activities but can also cause increased strain and tension on the structures that support the shoulder. Primary problems can arise from traumatic injuries or long term postural dysfunctions which can both lead to rotator cuff (muscles around the shoulder) tears or strains, bursitises, or tears of the labrum. (cartilaginous ring around the socket). Often,with early treatment, we can help you to avoid surgery on the shoulder. If you do need surgery, rehabilitation of the rotator cuff muscles, impingement, postural problems, or dislocations needs to address many different areas including the neck, thoracic spine, acromioclavicular joint, sternoclavicular joint and glenohumeral joint as well as the first three ribs. Proper evaluation and treatment developed to address the biomechanical dysfunctions is a must to avoid re-injury.
